Market research conducted by Cellular Technology Ltd. (CTL) indicates that the number of peer-reviewed publications referencing the
ELISPOT (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSpot) technique continued to increase in 2006. Statistically, the number of these publications has increased by over 150% from 2000 to 2006.
Of the top ten institutions publishing on ELISPOT worldwide, six are located within the United States; these institutions include NIH, Johns Hopkins, and Harvard. All of the top ten institutions have CTL ImmunoSpot instruments.
While the majority of ELISPOT publications are authored by U.S. researchers, researchers worldwide are also gaining momentum. Publications in 2006 originating from countries as diverse as Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Columbia, Canada, China, Columbia, Denmark, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the UAE, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
The significant increase has been attributed to many factors. These include the utility and versatility of the ELISPOT assay as well as improved ease and objectivity of data acquired through automated image analysis instrumentation.
